I'm lydia, Im fifteen right now, and have had alopecia, for as long as i could remember, it kinda runs in my family out of 7 children 4 have it. My dad has, my grandma had, and so forth. Its so depressing to have it. I live i n hawaii, and i feel as though i m the only one with it. God. Its so hard. I hate going out, I hate to be walking down the street and someone yelling "CANCER" at me, there isnt much teasing about this at my school. But i know everyone asks my friends. huh. Am I alone.

@sdeanmusic I love this comment, it's really emotionally effecting. I dont have AA, but my school years were identical. I ended up dropping out at 15, a year before I was legally able to, because it was so bad, the school actually told me to, and gave me permission. It's odd. Because I came to terms with it at around 22, and have been shaving my head ever since. It's not difficult these days to fit in as a man like this. But, I can imagine how painful it would be, with no choice. All my love bud

Lost it all when I was 12 . Started in September and was gone completely by November . That was almost 33 years ago . I'll be 45 next month but no one would ever know I was that old .
Sometimes there is good in bad . Eyelashes and nose hair would be helpful though.

I am a male and I have AA Universalis. It started to fall out in 1981 when I was 11, by 13, all my hair was gone, head to toe, I was devastated. Middle school / High school was an extremely difficult time. I chose to wear a wig to blend in the crowd but looking back, it made me stand out even more. My peers were very abusive to me and it still affects me to this day, I am 41. I have learned a lot about people. Georgia. your strength and honesty, will help so many who are hurting and alone.

@sdeanmusic Thank you sooo much for sharing your story with me. I know how hard it can be. I hope that you do better with everything these days but know that you have so many of us out there who understand! Have you joined Alopecia World?
