This is my all time favorite monologue, Act 3, Scene 1 of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Just hearing it sends chills up my spine! I thought I'd do a recitation here just for fun. (It's been awhile, i'm surprised I still remember all of it!)

I wish more people enjoyed/understood Shakespeare, as it is some of the more beautiful examples of play writing- period.

This scene has been interpreted a million different ways. To me, the simplest explanation of it's purpose is to say Hamlet is debating the virtues/complications of living versus the simplicity/finality of death.

Oh yes, and as far as the fake accent goes- it's Shakespeare! If it isn't at least attempted with an accent it just isn't worth doing! :)

  • @anotherLLAMA Actually, I agree with you. I was so excited about having memorized the entire thing, I never truly took time to work on emotion or feeling. I've worked quite a bit at this point and can express Hamlet's turmoil much better through vocal changes, etc. Funny you bring this up, as I was just saying the other day this vid needed replacement!
