I'm not going to lie. This video isn't as thrilling as "Hopelessly Lost in a Nubian Village." We weren't even lost in Garbage City. It just felt like we were.
Garbage City is a neighborhood in Cairo built, literally and figuratively, on garbage. The people who live there are called the Zabbaleen which means "Garbage People" in Egyptian Arabic. The Zabbaleen have served informally as Cairo's trash collectors for decades, living amongst the trash they recycle to make a living.
Many of the Zabbaleen are Coptic Christians. In this video, you'll see an enormous church they've built inside a cave on the edge of Garbage City. With seating for 15,000 to 20,000, it's the largest church in the Middle East.
You will also see a goat.
