  • When I was a child nothing was open on election day. Schools, the town hall, the library, grocery stores, everything was shut down except that which was related to public safety and gas stations so people would be able to drive to the polls. In my small town 96% of those eligable were registered and we always had over 95% voter turn out. The line at the polling place (my school) was out the door and down the block. Today, most people don't even know where to go to vote.

  • In 1992 I worked for a retail store. I had to leave for work before the polls opened and would not get home until after the polls closed. I came to work that day 2 hours late because I voted. My boss fired me for being late. Exercising my franchise cost me that job. I tried to sue but the judge told me that I had no grounds and dismissed the case. This is what is wrong with the elections, not when we hold them but the fact that people are forced to choose between workign and voting.

  • If we held it on a monday or friday people would just go "yay! we got a long weekend!" instead of going out to vote. This is such an important day that it was decided to hold it in the middle of the week to make sure people did this rather than go to leasure things. Your organization should stop trying to change it from tuesday and start presuring the government to force everything to shut down on election day.

  • Why tuesday? We actually should be asking why did we stop honoring this federal and legal holiday? Tuesday was chosen then made a legal federal holiday. Schools, banks, businesses, governments shut down for one day so we could all go out and vote. But then businesses complained and everyone stopped honoring election day. If we held it on a weekend nobody would pay attention since we all go off and do other stuff on our day off.

  • omg i live near where this was filmed

    so closee

    yet soo farrr

  • he seems really approachable, yea or nay?
