  • One thing needs translation: when he say "broken leer" he means [guard] rail on the main deck consisting of posts and cable on them, Russian navy calls it "leer" (pick cyrillic letters here), word probably originating from rail or its german or dutch equivalent, transformed to "leer".

  • @yuowatcher

You are absolutely right. Almost all naval terms in Russian of the Dutch origin.

I don't have Russian-English dictionary of naval terms and I have simply written its Latin.

Thanks for the attentive relation to a video data

  • FYI.... The US Captain was not relived of duty. He continued his normal tour and was relieved several months later. The Captain was later promoted to Rear Admiral and became the naval liason to the French government and other posts before retiring to civilian work as the production manager of the shipyard that produces American warships. I was on-board Yorktown during the incident.

  • @jonemac

I already discussed it with your counterparts. Look earlier comments.

I do not consider as increase a post of the military attache at embassy of the USA in Paris for the captain of the first class fighting ship entering into a striking force of US Sixth Fleet

The chiefs who have charged to him this foolish dangerous provocative mission, have simply cleaned him from fleet.

Or you consider, what he has topped himself with fadeless fighting glory and has made a feat for sake US people?

  • Thanks for your reply- i love history and i just wanted to give a balanced point of view not to take sides.

I am Irish so i neither support Russia or USA but i understand the suffering of the Russian people during the great Patriotic war. So let us remember history to avoid our mistakes but at the same time remember those you gave their lives to defeat the evils of facism.

    Thank you

  • @space2199

I have specially given to this plot an a bit satirical and sarcastic shades. It is paradoxical, but the part of the American public (including the former crewmen of cruiser YORKTOWN) is still assured that in this intrusion of the fighting American ships into the Soviet maritime belt there was nothing illegal and dangerous.

It would be desirable to know that you think about it.

  • The Yorktown and Caron were executing a right of innocent passage under international maritime law, which was recognized by the Soviet government, when they were attacked by the Soviet naval ships.

  • american were running like fucking chicken. :DDD

  • great video thanks. no usual we got bigger balls shit. good directing.

  • Interestingly all the "facts" about the damaged harpoon launcher and the like come exclusively from verbal accounts of the soviet officers. No video or photographic evidence is available. While the only solid evidence provided by the video taken by american sailors seems to point at an accidental collision.

  • @stevencwollan17 Was it even an intentional collision? From the video it looks like the russian crew is up on deck on the starboard side just before the collision. Does it make sense to have your crew there if you are intending to make contact? Look at the lean of the russian ship prior to collision - it is leaning away from the american ship. Looks like the russian captain is attempting to pull away but his ship is getting pulled into the larger ship by its wake.
