Wow...I haven't heard this in over 25 years! WNYC used to carry a kid's show in the early evening before "All Things Considered" and sometimes I would get to hear the sign-off.
Back then, they were a daytime-only station, on from sunrise to sunset to protect clear-channel WCCO in the Twin Cities. Around 1988, the AM side moved up to 820, increased the power, and went 24/7.
Then and now, the AM and FM sides are pretty separate from each other programming-wise.
Very similar to WKA AM 870 from Michigan State University. Does the AM and FM simulcast all the time, or is the AM talk and the FM music? That is the way it is with WKAR AM being all talk, and FM being music.
