Lynwood Farnam (1885-1930) was a famous Canadian organ virtuoso and was considered one of (if not) the best organist of his day. He held positions in churches and colleges in Montreal, Boston, and New York City. Louis Vierne dedicated his sixth symphony and Leo Sowerby dedicated his Symphony in G to Farnam.

The cadenza played in this recording was published in a recent edition of The American Organist magazine and was apparently copied from a roll recording of Farnam playing his piece.

The tune O Filii et Filiae is a 17th century French melody. The text is by Jean Tisserand, ca. 1490. The first stanza of John Mason Neale's 1851 translation is below:

"O sons and daughters, let us sing! The King of heav'n, the glorious King, o'er death today rose triumphing. Alleluia! Alleluia!"

Enjoy!
