@TheMrCaddyshack The first tragedy on a 9/11. I grew up with Jaco, was in his first band. You could see even in elementary school that there was something very special about this person. Missed out on his 30th Birthday bash 'cause I was married at the time and had to move that very day. Last time I talked to him and saw him play was summer of '79 on his Joni Mitchell tour. He was joyful and zoned in on his music. Havan wasn't worthy to pick up Jaco's used chewing gum....

@rjparnell13 He got his bass stolen sometime in 1987 and got the shit beaten out of him by Luc Havan at the Midnight Bottle Club on September 11th, 1987. Luc was initially charged with second-degree murder, but then somehow managed to somehow have the charges lowered to manslaughter and got out after four months. According to Jaco's daughter Mary, the man has never apologized for killing Jaco or even communicated with the Pastorius family. What a douchebag!

@rjparnell13 Jaco died in September 1987 though, not within a few weeks of December 1980

Yep, dat be him....last time I saw Jaco, he was hitching (or trying to) a ride down into the Holland tunnel, NYC...barefoot, bass case next to him (late December, 1980; freezing!)...we couldn't stop (illegal, see?)...couple weeks later, got his genius head kicked in by an over-zealous bouncer...anyone know what ever happened 2 that evil f*cker?...anyhoo, Jaco is, & probably will always be, the premier exponent of the Fretless Electric Bass Guitar...thank you for listening...:-)

@samuraimacisthebest I would say it's a fretless bass what you're hearing, but you'll understand better if I say: IT'S JACO FREAKIN' PASTORIUS

Had already owned six albums so I bought it right off the rack without even listening to it in the store like I normally would. The cover was enough for me. Number seven turned out to be very lucky (also bought two other albums. One was Al DiMeola "Elegan Gypsy"). Man, played it so much I nearly forgot to play the other two albums. Still enjoy this song.
