In 1995 George Goble experimented at Purdue university trying to find the fastest way to light a BBQ.
This video shows the fastest way, pouring 3 gallons of liquid oxygen over a grill with 60 pounds of coal and a lighted cigarette.
In the second part of the video this method is used on a 2.88$ discount grill. Most of it vaporizes(!) in the process.

I think our friend here is unaware of the fact that this man, an accomplished professor, knows precisely what he is doing, and has no intentions of cooking real food like that. This is not just a waste of a barbecue. This is SCIENCE!

Don Dammann, also at Purdue, was known to experiment with flames/fuels long before George. In the mid 80s he originally showed Goble how to make a campfire light faster.

try dumping that on thermite and see if it makes a man-made volcano. For the BBQ might have to get one made of tungsten apparently. Why not just dump O2 on the food your cooking and see how it tastes once thawed out?

Just read this in my Ignobel book. Short version is a George and a bunch of engineering buddies over a few years wanted the fasted way to light a charcoal bbq and, eventually they started using liquid oxygen.

The firefighters got a bit angry, and he's promised not to do it anymore.
