The British sponsored the arabs and insighted them to wage terror against the Jews during the British occupation because they felt that the arabs could be better controlled. The plan backfired when the arabs chose loyalty to Hitler during WW2 (see Mufti of Jerusalem) and the British gave up and left, not before splitting the country into 2, creating TransJordan.....
