FUCKING MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK
-
Copper is not affected by magnets. Also, you should test away from the clasps as well, since clasps may be made of something magnetic while the rest is not...

You should look into a rubbing stone.

Don't drop acid directly onto the gold! When I sold my gold ring to a dealer they rubbed it onto sand paper in a straight line, then they dropped acid onto the paper in sections to see what carat it is.

Not all gold is hallmarked. And 22k is actually 917, not 916.

STUPID! the steel spring in the clasp on the chain is magnetic. Copper will never stick to a magnet no matter how strong it is. Anyone watching these videos is setting themselves to get ripped off. READ BOOKS

If it's plated and non magnetic and it has a hallmark, the only way to find out is to do the acid test. But, like I said in my video, this would imply using a file on the piece, so think twice if it's some antique. But, to be honest, for your peace of mind, you should file all pieces and perform acid tests on all of them. I didn't and got stuck with three chains for which I had paid more than £400 only to find out later they were worth about a tenner.
