A quintessentially Irish-American celebration of family, in which Judy Garland does double duty, performing as both a mother and her daughter. Native Irishman Mike Noonan (Charles Winninger) could not object more to daughter Nellie's (Garland) choice in suitor, the despised Jerry Kelly (George Murphy). But for her sake, he journeys to the States to live with the hated Kelly, and eventually raise a granddaughter with him. Features a knockout performance of Singin' in the Rain by Ms. Garland.
