As an American who is a big Secretariat "historian", I actually purchased the movie "Phar Lap" because I had read so much about him. What a magnificant racehorse and certainly the pride of Australia. The movie was wonderful and very well done. I am a Phar Lap "fan", because I can appreciate what Phar Lap meant to the Australian people during the depression. Secretariat came along at a time in American history when things were not going well. Vietnam War, Watergate, etc. He was our hero.

Interesting Global reach this horse had. Born n bred in New Zealand. Bought by an American and brought over to Australia to train and race there. Stumbled with losses for a bit there before finally (and emphatically) coming into its own by winning the crap out of races there. When its American owner wanted to see how it would do in the Big Leagues of horse racing, he brought it to Tijuana Mexico, where it raced there and won North America's biggest money race... only to die verrry mysteriously.
