4/13/09~Xi Lan Pulled Down by Lun~2.24min

About 4:40pm e.t.~~Lun is walking around the dayroom and Xi Lan playing up on the structure, when Lun comes to pull him down~~he spins around the side rail a few times and down on his back. He gets up and scratches and shakes his little head & walks to drinking fountain~he is a tough little guy. {update: I know she didn't mean to pull him hard & don't think she would ever intentionally hurt him~she's the best!}

I don't know why Lun wanted to pull Lan down, she didn't feed him. Maybe she is "The Mummy Monster" after all, that other panda-people are calling her, even though I have always before defended Lun. She is a good mother most of the time. Thanks for sharing this, Joyce.

hugwildlife: Lun Lun is a great Panda Mom and means no harm to her baby boy! People call her MM as a term of endearment. I think Xi-Lan's fall was an accident - Lun dropped him. Lun Lun will get Xi Lan down when she wants to play, restless, hungry or when she is trying to get the keepers attention. In this video, Lun was clearly pacing and more than likely wanted to play with Xi Lan before the drop.

I don't mean it nasty about Lun either, I love her. I've seen her so loving and gentle with her children,I know that she wouldn't do any harm to them. I don't think that any panda mother would want to hurt their babies.

reply to huwildlife's 2nd comment ~wherever it ends up, starting under there now~Oh I know you didn't mean it nasty about Lun too~I know several people emailed the zoo about Mei Lan not understanding some of the rough dragging & play, I as one of them & loved their reply "Lun is one of the best" & I believe that, and remember that with Xi Lan & realize they are tough and play hard

putting this right under luvpandas1 but if it doesn't go there this is it's reply~thank you for your good explanation, I think we alI agree completely~I know she drops him also~and as bears they play rough sometimes & she does pull him off things & it looks scary sometimes, but she would never intentionally hurt him & is an excellent Mom to him & was to Mei Lan too

I think she either dropped him as she does sometimes pulling him down from up there {& I've seen that scare her too}, or didn't mean to pull him that hard~it had scared someone I knew, and I'm sure it looked better the 2nd time in the video than the fast 1st time happening so quickly~you are right to defend her~& they don't mean it~just kidding with that name {though sometimes a little nervously} she is a great Mom & panda bear

Luvpandas1: thx for ur good explanation. Yes, LunLun is one of the best mom. This pic she must be very tired & little frustration for whatever reason was. She decided to play w/ her little prince but accidently dropped him. If v, human being in one enclosure all day w/ an active child+ couldn't eat food v wanted, how would v feel? Poor Lun Lun, she must be tired. @1:26 Xi Lan rubbed his head saying Oooh! momie, u scared me! Soooo precious.

He wubbed his widdle bitty head. It must have stunned him a little. Lun Lun was a little concerned too. She was like, "Oops, I didn't mean for THAT to happen"! She's such a great mom.
