@iQing i agree people it will make people look at you, but its just a lazy excuse to not walk ;)

Too expensive. The only people who buy them are people who either have money to burn or are spending other people's money.
Too dorky. Only for a select group of people who find it so difficult to walk, they'd rather look like dorks.
Their best customers are local governments, universities, and corporations for fat cops, security guards and teamsters.

Might make a good rich kid's toy. Otherwise it's pretty impractical. Near zero cargo capacity. Keeps both hands continuously occupied. No weather protection; could you even hold an umbrella while riding one? And, not least, it's the dorkiest-looking thing I've ever seen.

Hmm they were made in 2001 and now, 8 years later the prices are still the same? Anyway good to keep the environment clean in a modern, lazier way :). I bet almost everyone will have one in the near future.

yeah that was my first thought...to walk is the only "sport" for many people today...i see segway more as a hobby or as something to cover greater distances...
