http://www.rischenterprizes.com/plasmathruster.htm A short Plasma thruster experiment, high voltage arcing creates a current path through plasma. Current in a uniform magnetic field produces a force perpendicular to the field and the current direction. The plasma direction is right-to-left. The H20 in a plasma state is forced linearly along the electrodes. H20 in a plasma state quickly falls back to a gas and liquid state in cool air in the form of puffs on steam. The Propelled steam has just enough force to flicker paper. This process occurs at 10-30 kHz and thus appears to be a "solid" field of plasma. see my site for more images and information

  • but would it perform in a vacuum?

  • Yes, the plasma breakdown occurs inside of ionized water, some modification would be needed to handle the vapor pressure though. Water does not have to be the only fuel type, any mass with low breakdown voltage can be used as a fuel, the fuel meaning the medium which is converted to plasma and thrown down the magnetic field to create thrust.

  • also the fact that I am using a liquid is irrelevant as well, a solid consumable third electrode could be used in place of water.

  • I am using a 6kV generator, pulsing DC at some unknown frequency in the kHz range, these voltages are not generating intense fields of potential, because this is a closed circuit, the plasma path, no different from whats inside a fluorescent bulb or neon tube closes the current loop, thus this once the plasma is generated is more of a current based experiment then a voltage one. If it helps to distinguish that H2O is travelling to the paper, the paper is in fact wet after a few moments

  • It's called an ion thruster, and it works. The technology isn't there yet to be able to propel an satellite into orbit yet, but it is highly efficient in maneuvering the satellites once they are already in orbit.

  • What ever happened to those kids that convinced president Clinton to build a small space craft using Plasma Thrust. Clinton said they were going to make satellite they was propelled by plasma. It was said to be so much more cost effective than standard full cells. When the kids were asked how they came up with it, they said they learned it by studying Star Trek manuals that they bought at the book store.

  • Fart xD

  • Is it just me or is this the BTTF flux capacitor ?!

  • the question is will it blend

  • plasma works better in a vacume

  • Thats how i sound after eating Beans

  • @TheMaster734 have you ever heard of Thomas Townsend Brown.

  • doesnt look too strong just looks like a short cuircut

  • @TheMaster734

Not possible for space travel, you still need to push something out the back to make the engine move forward, and the EMdrive hasn't been peer reviewed since it was announce in 2006, making it more than likely its just some guy having a laugh with a physics book.

  • LOL danger extremely hot fart machine
