    in those time greece stuggled to find a country to host the game they were going to go with finland but the soviet union invaded them so they had to choose London we couldnt build a stadium so quickly so we had to use a football stadium at least it made history and was successful

    Lmfao @ people commenting on these older ceremonies saying they are "better" than the ones nowadays or London 2012's opening ceremony. The modern ones are better, it's a fact, get over it.

    Just cause the modern ones are better doesn't negate the importance or coolness of these older ceremonies though, but you don't need to confirm that to yourself by trying to lyingly say to yourself that these were better ceremonies when they're just clearly not.

    How different things were in those days!! The world was still only begining to recover from WWII(Germany and Japan were barred from these olympics). The opening ceremonies were shorter and more about protocol than music concerts. Didn't the athletes have to stay in former military barracks?
