Obama says Americans must demand stricter gun control

US President Barack Obama is hoping Americans will learn from the country's history of shootings and call on their elected leaders to agree to ban the future production of some assault weapons and ammunition clips that hold more than 10 bullets. He also wants to make sure everyone who wants to buy a gun has to pass a more comprehensive background check. But despite the proposals given by Vice President Joe Biden on gun control, there are still an estimated 300 million guns already in the US and a strong pro-gun lobby. Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane reports from Washington, DC.

The sandy hook school board has taken action- they have voted to put armed guards in there schools. Taking guns from law abiding people makes us less safe. And I would like to know how many criminals will give up there weapons!? We have a right and a DUTY to uphold the constitution and the second amendment. Trying to reinstate an AWB that even the DOJ admitted was a failure seems like a severe misuse of my tax revenue. As for Universal Background Checks, they are simply a backdoor means of gun registration that the socialists in D.C. hope will precede confiscation. Who I chose to sell my private property property to is not, and never will be, the governments or anyone's business but mine. I will not comply with any laws designed to erode our constitution. On a personal note, Obama makes me ill.
