1987 Chevrolet Fullsize k5 Blazer with open headers first.

Trail was mostly dried up so this was all i could do without getting SERIOUSLY stuck with no big rigs to pull me out.

The k5 blazer wasnt wheeling today but he did pull me out twice..And he pulled out a friend who took his hyundai car around the back trail.

As i was leaving i decided to pick a different rut and sunk it good. The k5 was spinning all 4s (sorry no video) and still barely got me out.

  • hey any problems with the 4WD lock mechanisim on your Z71? Heard they didnt work very good on those year models.

  • @zztops08 at 135k no problems. These Z71s usually pretty good about it. The S-10s crap out all the time, but its not hard to fix. Usually the vaccume activated actuator (ha) for the front axle will stop working, by the battery, or the electronic transfer case actuator goes.

But on the fullsize K1500 z71s, me, nor my many friends with this same truck, have had any issues at all with the 4wd. Friends trucks all 90k-210k..

Couldnt say on the 88-early 90s k1500, they have different transf

  • @JL157 different transfer cases than our 98. Think the front axle locks the same as the 98 though.

Its the superdutys you gotta watch out for, those sucker's automatic hubs go out alot. They are pretty cool, electric AND vaccume actuated as a backup, but still not fail proof.

  • Is this in Fort Wayne, Indiana? It looks familiar.

  • @raiburn1 Virginia. And it is now a construction site with half built homes. Nowhere left to wheel legally.

  • I would haved to sit on the hood to give your truck some weight in the front end while feeling it struggle to get unstuck. Why the hell didn't you just pile a bunch of guys on the hood??? That sure would have gotten it unstuck sooner.

  • @michael92464 how does that help the tire reach the ground while the axle is high centered?? It does not.

  • @zztops08-you heard wrong. i have one w/ 145k miles on it and the 4x4 still good as new. these truck have a reputation for being strong long lasting work/farm vehicles.

  • @JL157 Funny you say that cause my 90 z71 lost 4wd. I fixed by inserting a non moving actuator.

  • goin in at .5 mph doesn't help

  • @JL157 Where at in Virginia are yall?

  • blazer sounds like a bike with a can on the tire..

  • Is that a 97 or a 98 Z71? those trucks were good about staying in 4wd...I miss my 97... But now I have a 99 Z71 and it doesn't compare to my old 97.

  • @JL157 thanks man im thinkin about getting one. this helps.
