Barack is not yet president, but his White House scandals have started! [JANUARY 4, 2009] : DISGRACED Bill Richardson resigns !

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson has withdrawn his nomination to be president-elect Barack Obama's commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation. Obama's transition office said Sunday that Obama has accepted Richardson's withdrawal.

(CNN) -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is withdrawing his nomination to be commerce secretary, citing the distraction of a federal investigation into ties to a company that has done business with his state.

Two Democratic officials told CNN the investigation involves a California company that won municipal bond business in New Mexico after contributing money to various Richardson causes.

In a statement Sunday, Richardson said he asked Obama "not to move forward" with his nomination now.

"I do so with great sorrow. But a pending investigation of a company that has done business with New Mexico state government promises to extend for several weeks or, perhaps, even months," the statement reads. "Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact. But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process.

"Given the gravity of the economic situation the nation is facing, I could not in good conscience ask the President-elect and his Administration to delay for one day the important work that needs to be done."

Richardson, one of the best-known Hispanics in the Democratic Party, served as energy secretary in the Clinton administration as well as ambassador to the United Nations. The 61-year-old said he will remain governor.

Obama released a statement saying that he accepted the withdrawal with "deep regret."

Money wasted. A vast amount of (mostly good-intentioned) people were bamboozled into voting for him under the dubious mantra of change. Please do not continue to hope for such because, although the lesser of two evils, Obama is not the messiah everyone makes out. It is blatantly obvious from his cabinet choices, his bailout, his support for the war, his foreign and monetary policies, and his "clean coal" support (what an oxymoron), etc. Business as usual I'm afraid, but I've accepted that fact.

I appreciate an intelligent ocmment like yourz. However grassroots meant that it begins with the people. Obama in Chicago was never seen as a future president. However his talents, charisma, CHARACTER, and chicago citizens were telling him to try and run. He got most of his campaign money from the people and that is why I think he is grassroots-he didn't have connections or his family members in politics. Thanks for commenting.

There's nothing grassroots about him. We haven't had a grassroots president since our forefathers. The real grassroots movements are in the third parties, many of which made huge headlines this election cycle.

Hillary was a SCRUB that took anything Obama was going to give her. She hasn't been seen wither. All politicians are corrupt in some way-their human just like us. Obama is a grassroots president and he is learning how corrupt, dirty, and partisan the white house is. He needs to stop reaching out to repubs-they won't work with him.
