This isn't legal anymore. The AMA's Council on Legislation--made up of 12 doctors-- voted unanimously to recommend that the AMA Board of Trustees endorse H.R. 1833. A member of the Council said they "felt this was not a recognized medical technique," and that the council members agreed that the "procedure is basically repulsive."

@hannabthemd HR1833 was the bill put before congress in April of 1996 which was vetoed because it was vague & did not meet the criteria of the AMA which was that the bill would allow a legitimate exception where maternal life/health was endangered, that the bill would clearly define the prohibited procedure so that it is clear on the face of the legislation what act is to be banned & that the bill would allow an accused physician to have his/her conduct reviewed by the State Medical Board (cont)

@hannabthemd (cont) Further, the AMA, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists agree that "The intervention of legislative bodies into medical decision making is inappropriate, ill advised, & dangerous" and members of the AMA agreed that "[the AMA] has endorsed government intrusion in a private medical decision and sanctioned a law that subjects physicians to criminal prosecution for providing necessary health care." IDX is no longer legal, however, late term abortions are.
