Because I can't be too safe: please DO NOT look directly into the laser when doing this!

This video demonstrates what a properly working KES-400A laser does when a clear disc is used. The clear disc is necessary to get the laser to work because of the monitor diode inside the laser.

  • Where did you get the clear disc?

  • @MBisFrenchy They usually come out of the bottom of a stack of CD-Rs. They're packed in to protect that bottom blank disc so you can use them all.

  • @Fakkan I have the exact same issue with mine. I have made a video of it (look at my videos)

Did you get the problem resolved? was it the laser?

Also can anyone identify the laser as it does not have a model number on the sticker on the side.

    -Thank you

  • @Motsey Your laser is the KES-410ACA. In your video response, all indications point to a faulty laser. It's supposed to light up blue and red while it tries to spin the disc, but it's not working. As a verification, you could try with a real disc (you should be able to see the light through the disc) and see if things start working, but I don't think they will.

  • Is there any way to do this without a clear disc? My Ps3 dose not read Blu-ray discs and wonna make sure before I buy a new laser. dont have a clear disc lol

  • @confirmedleek You can use a CD-R for the test, since the laser is bright enough to shine through it even with a reflective layer on top. You should be able to see the blue laser and the red laser used for DVD, but there are other ways the laser unit can fail (it may be failing to detect the light coming back from the disc)

  • @junker15 Will you ever make a video for a KES 410? If you have one of course. I can get you a drive.

  • @junker15 Thanks i got a brand new laser and nothing is happening. Just want to test if it is the laser or driver board. Any suggestions?

  • @SOLOW65 Yep, your laser has failed. At least yours has SOME sign of life; mine just completely stopped working while the system was powered on.

  • Hey Junker, Thanks for all your information. My diode bobs up and down exactly 3 times on the test with the blue light that appears to be relatively dim as I cannot see it through a disc and it doesn't spin the disc at all. Is this a faulty laser or something else. It gave no indication that it was failing, it just worked one day then didn't work the next. Thanks in advance... SOLOW65
