J.J. Kelly @ Appalachia (Pre-Game Confrontation)

The J.J. Kelly Indians visited the Appalachia Bulldogs and set up a spirit line closest to the "Doghouse" and the goal posts directly in front of it, setting the stage for a Kelly entrance down the middle of the field. The Bulldog players took offense to this gesture and, shortly after entering the field, marched single-file up through the Indian spirit line to confront the Indian players upon bursting through the paper being held by Indian cheerleaders.

The Indians would use their momentum to come away with a 62-6 victory and give the Bulldogs one of their worst home losses in school history. The actions before and after the game overshadowed the victory, however, and both sides are equally at fault for allowing this to occur. This is not a fair representation of the respect and hard work that each football program in southwest Virginia normally displays and should serve as an excellent example of what to prevent in the future and how not to represent your programs on Friday nights.

@ScoopDaddy488 I'll tell you one interesting fact about Appalachia's tradition is that in the 90s, according to the VHSL-Reference website, out of 243 high schools in the state of VA - all sizes - they were ranked #2 and Powell Valley was ranked #1 as the all-time best. If that isn't impressive, I don't know what is. Gate City is ranked #10, which is also impressive. I sure hope that one day football in Southwest Virginia can again attain that status. Those were the best of times.
