Yes I know about that kind of transfer... but thats how transfers were done 20 years ago. Today you generate the needed frames digitally and it doesnt matter if it is 18fps to 24 fps, its just the same. Or the most used way is with a proyector and a digital cam recording the movie displayed in a white screen. There is no need to have those flashes. you just record in digital mode and improve the file with a video editor. Guess thats not what the author of this video did.
there is something also called film to video transfer. most home movie stock was shot as low as 18fps. Hollywood Movies are shot at 24fps. a NTSC video display is closer to 30fps and a PAL/SECAM video is 25fps. some of the flickering could be a result of the video transfer.
how can anyone say this is great footage? omg, I know there were bad cameras back on those days, but making that effect of flashing video just to justify a retro style was bad taste. I'd rather go enhancing video quality than making it look worst.
