From Act 1 of Handel's oratorio Samson HWV 57,
'Loud as the thunder's awful voice' - Philistine man.
'Then free from sorrow, free from thrall' - Philistine woman.
'Awake the trumpet's lofty sound' - a snippet by the Philistine chorus.
From scene 3 @ 6.15 minutes
'God of our fathers, what is man?' - Israelite man.

Both men - Mark Padmore, tenor.
Woman - Lynne Dawson, soprano.
Symphony of Harmony and Invention.
The Sixteen, under Harry Christophers.

All three pieces were omitted by Bicket in his 2009 concert, where Padmore is Samson. More Padmore as 'a man' in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkUU9icbDUc

  • Excellent rendition by Mark Padmore. I am unfamiliar with this part of Sampson and delight in finding it.
