From www.FaSoLa.org:

Tune: J. P. Reese, 1869
Words: The Sacred Harp, 1869
Meter: Long Meter (8,8,8,8)

Farewell, vain world, Im going home
To play on the Golden Harp.
My Savior smiles and bids me come
To play on the Golden Harp.

Chorus:
I want to be where Jesus is,
To play on the Golden Harp.

Sweet angels beckon me away
To play on the Golden Harp.
To sing Gods praise in endless day
To play on the Golden Harp.

(Chorus)

  • I own every Sacred Harp CD I have been able to find. Here, just as among my CDs, it's the singers in Western Massachusetts who seem to always have the most amazing combination of massiveness and tunefulness. Everyone seemed to be in the same key and not singing either flat or sharp; couldn't hear any screeching or bellowing show-offs; no one part was drowning out the others. (Now you know what it is that I simply cannot abide.)

  • Fantastic! What a wonderful song and a wonderful sound! Thank you for posting this! I am new to shape note and this is a great video to see!
