How do we balance the needs of a growing population with a finite planet? By the year 2050, our planet will be home to another 2 billion people. How will we feed them all? Not only will there be more people, but everyone will have more money to spend on food. Where, on an increasingly crowded planet, will we grow all of it? Picture what would happen if we could freeze the footprint of food by doubling the productivity of farming.

It's absurd that they didn't even mention the difference in efficiency between plant foods and animal foods. Eating meat/eggs/dairy takes an order of magnitude more resources. If you want to address the problem in a simple and effective way start eating lower on the food chain! ...not to mention it's healthier and more compassionate.
And, as others have mentioned, slowing overpopulation is half the equation. I see they're trying to make things understandable, but they're oversimplifying a lot.

yeah, what andthemieke said! STOP HAVING BABIES! That's the problem with the world! It is not our birth right to reproduce, it's a privilege. I think if people only bred when they had an adequate environment in which to raise a child with enough money and space for it, the world would grow slower, and each life would be richer, healthier and more productive for the future of the race.

thing is there are countries in which children are a resource, as in work power. and cant really blame africa or bangladesh for having tens of children if we think how the "civilized" world treats their issues.
funny how this issue cannot get us all united to find a solution. the way i see it is scary to engineer crops to make higher yields too. especially if the patent is in the hands of ruthless corporations looking only for bigger profit.

I can not like your comment enough, fruition. Livestock feed takes the most land and water...Also take into account that the USA throws 40% of all the food they produce or import into landfills and you realize the entire system must be overhauled.

You are 100% correct. I like many others realised this and stopped with consumption of animal products. It is pathetic that most humans are too proud and self centred to do the same "I like burgers so I will keep eating them, fuck the planet or empathy". Now we need hemp legalised too but that wont happen until people wake up. EAT TO LIVE, DONT LIVE TO EAT. SIMPLE!
