From the FREE weekly Figure Four Wrestling Podcast, journalists Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discuss why Jerry Lawler is exempt from the famous tirades made by Vince McMahon. In his book "Countdown to Lockdown," wrester Mick Foley described the disrespect that Vince talks to his announcers when producing them live. Apparently Lawler will quit, and therefore McMahon does not yell at him when producing.

He's right when he said that Lawler can't relate to today's Raw, because it's not what wrestling used to be at all. I turn on WWE today and the ALL the wrestlers look like frat boys with tattoos.  There's barely any diversity in the characters at all.

@BlakGlasses Cole also calls almost every submission CM Punk does the "Anaconda Vise" he does make up for it with Booker, they have chemistry. Cole isn't the worst so you can't exactly say he is bad at commentary. As long as Cole never wrestles a day in his life again I have no problem with him on commentary :) I'll take him over Mike Tenay any day.

@MrPavelSan Cole is a damn good commentator. He's a more modern version, he isn't "old school". King and JR are already legendary in what they do, Cole will be too. Cole is the ultimate troll, he's hilarious and knows what to say and when to say it. He schools Booker all the time, come on now. He calls Booker out on all his commentary mistakes, that's HILARIOUS. I've been watching since I was 5, 20 years of this shit, Cole is on spot w his commentary. Love it or hate it.......

@SparkleLobster I agree with you on one thing though, Jerry Lawler is more of an old school kind of commentator. He got completely lost in today's wrestling standards. I think he is completely bored after over 20+ years he does the commentary. I want Joey Styles to replace him though. Joey was a great storyteller. He was equal to Jim Ross during the early 2000s and he did the commentary all by himself. Lawler has to go, I think after all those years, he just got bored by this commentary thing.

@MrPavelSan Okay, so you can say Orton sucks and his character doesn't know what he's doing right now. Then I believe that a good commentator would be able to explain the character. So, when the wrestler fumbles, the commentator is able to give the audience a reason for that fumble and that it's not that the character sucks, it's because of this reason and that reason.

How would I commentate on Orton? I'm not paid to do that job so it's neither here nor there.

@SparkleLobster I actually understand Lawler. Look at Orton, his character is completely stuck between the Viper, the Legend Killer and this weird "live TV is awesome" Orton. Tell me how Jerry Lawler supposed to build a character on commentary when the character is stuck in the middle? How would you commentated on Randy Orton?

@MrPavelSan I didn't say Michael Cole. You might not realise that there are other human beings that could be employed. It could be someone completely new. Lawler *was* a good announcer but he's lazy and past it now and makes the same lame jokes week in, week out.

Getting rid of Lawler doesn't have to mean have hime replaced by Cole.
