Maoists Chase Away Protesters in Kathmandu, Nepal

A day after signing a historic agreement with the ruling alliance in Nepal, Maoists rebels faced a protest in front of their office in Lalitpur (Kathmandu Valley). Protestors, mainly a few dozen residents of Lalitipur district, had gathered in Kupandole, near a bridge that separates Kathmandu from Lalitpur, and stopped the vehicular movement on the road that goes from the front of the office. They had a complain: rebels were forcing the residents of the city to feed their comrades who have arrived in Kathmandu from different parts of the country to take part in a Mass Rally scheduled for Friday, Nov 10, 2006. Within an hour or so, about two hundred Maoist cadres from four casinos in Kathmandu came and flushed out the protestors and resumed the traffic movement as government police quietly watched.
