@BigHarv65 You can't believe you're having this argument, because you haven't researched or even thought about this subject before you posted your uninformed statement. You don't even realise there is a debate at all. If current research persuaded me that wearing a helmet was safer I would, but it hasn't so I won't. More lives would be saved if pedestrians were made to wear them. How many motorists die from head injuries? Many more than cyclists. Why not make it compulsory for them?

@zivkovicable Yeah, the motor bikers in New York had a very similar argument to you and took their demonstration to the streets not wearing helmets. They were also travelling very slowly when one of then crashed, hit the pavement and died. I cannot believe I'm even having this argument.........

@BigHarv65 The jury is still out on the effectiveness of for cycling helmets. Helmets are only effective from a standing fall. They offer no protection from a collision with a car. A study from Bath University found that motorists pass significantly closer to helmeted riders. Places that have compulsory helmet laws, or even encourage their use have low levels of cycling. which decreases the safety in numbers factor. It would make more sense to encourage motorists or pedestrians to wear one.
