Check out this video from Berkleemusic.com and give your MIDI tracks new life with the Automation feature in Propellerhead Reason and adjust the volume, panning levels, and filter controls to create the perfect blend for your mix.
I'm having trouble keeping my pan automated, I'll try the midi button you mentioned.

Right click on your mixer and select "create sequencer track", assign the sequencer track to control mixer 1, and when u record it will save any automation u do to anything on the mixer, including the volume.

"zigeuner36 " you might have figured it out already but anyways, to enable the midi track you need to highlight the track example{ nn-xt or mixer} it's located at the left below the interface buttons make sure u look to the left of the track and you'll see a keyboard symbol and next to it is a dot thingy click on it so that it light up then you can automate it
