Steam trains puff through the beautiful countryside of western Poland stopping at gingerbread stations. But who is driving them? Rail expert Howard Jones runs short courses, which lets tourists drive.
When high maintenance costs threatened the last scheduled steam network, officials turned to Jones for help. His courses teach steam lovers how to drive a locomotive. Im English and Im here driving a locomotive with a whole lot of passengers behindits just amazing, beams Diane. Yet not everyone is happy with having novices up front because they can make the trains late.

Ah, a thing of beauty. I believe it is better to have a steamer out on the road doing what it was built to do instead of gathering dust in a museum. It gives you a better sense of what the past was like when you see the engine live and breathe.

the Poles are showing the way again !!! yes with some help, but only in Poland, Poland is leading the world again, get those steam locos out of those museums and use them, they can pay for themselves as the Poles have proved, greetings from wales!!!

At 6:45 they entering to Wroclaw , my city ! Many times ive seen steam train running from train station where they stop ! Great video

This is a wonderful experiment proven successful and exhilarating. Like the whisper in the film "Field of Dreams" "If you build them..they will come"! Using these well loved machines are the way to return people to the romantic era of train travel. Not every train passenger needs to go in excess of 100 mph/160kmh. Imagine if other major countries dedicated a few rail lines to steam locomotives not just as tourist attractions but real functioning commuter links? More jobs, less oil consumption
