This is the finished stove in use and I'm quite happy with how it has turned out. There's a great draw on it, in fact I will fit a baffle to reduce this. Leaving the door open with a small gap stops the glass sooting up.

  • All very informative, thank you...

  • Hi, I think it was a 15kg cylinder but people have used others. There is no grate...you don't need one for timber, but one could be dropped in. The legs are old GSX exhaust down pipes lightly brushed. And the base is the top chopped off and reused for the ash tray holder. There is a hole between the main body and the base with a metal plate that gets lifted to allow any ash to drop down into the tray. Only use a bottle which has been made safe...

  • Hello, I have a gas bottle and I found the casserole dish/lid last night when we were shopping. Did you have to trim the glass lid a little and if so what did you use? Also if you don't mind could you tell me what size of pipe you used for the front? I'm assuming I can cut the rest of the rings with a jigsaw and fire rope I can get on ebay. I'm building a shed at the back of our house as a workshop and one of these would be a great thing to have during the winter.

    Thanks!

  • You cannot trim the glass, just make the rings to fit the glass you have. Yes a jigsaw would do. The pipe is sized by you to fit the glass/rings you decide to use.

  • Hi, that looks great, I'm going to make one of these, what air vents did you put in? Did you use a baffle? How much heat does it belt out?

    Well done!

  • @bigpauly4 @bigpauly4 Hi, there's a vent directly below the glass formed from a plumbing fitting. There is no baffle but I will fit one to direct more heat onto the hotplate but it works very well as it is.

  • Looks like its alive.

  • now that's nice lol

  • . Dont want to piss on anyones chips but you need to be able to sweep the flue easily at least twice a year and you must have some air flow to the room to aid complete combustion. I was told by a very reliable source that a commercially made stove in the 80,s had to be recalled after a man died and his wife was found collapsed in the house with carbon monoxide poisoning. So dont mess with what you dont understand fully.

  • I would not advise anyone to make there own stove . Firstly fire risk . You need 300 mm hearth min in front of loading doors as burning wood can easily fall out when loading. Secondly carbon monoxide poisoning . Many people are killed every year by solid fuel appliances.

  • Man this stove is something perhaps a adjustable flue plate on the stovepipe going up.

  • That thing is Awesome. I might have to make something like that for my shed. Sweet job

  • Great stove!

  • Amazing design! Congratulations!
