Johann from the SmartLife Vlog, SmartCarofAmerica, and Forza Motor Reviews does a quick review of the 2004 Kia Spectra.

It was my first car actually! lol
2004 Kia Spectra:

Target Audience - Second hand buyers, teens.
Price - Up to $5,000 used.

Performance (12/20):
- 0 to 60 in 10s
- 1.8L DOHC w/ 124bhp & 119lb-ft torque
- 13.2 gallon tank
- 22/30 MPG

Handling (9/20):
- Sorted, weaker springs in rear are the true downfall, especially when carrying heavier passengers.

Comfort (15/20):
- Smooth ride, takes bumps well.
- Cheap yet comfortable seating.
- Ground clearance is too low (6in) for the wheels to be pushed back as far as they are.

Running Costs (15/20):
- It's relatively cheap to insure.
- Fuel economy is okay.

Safety (3/20):
- IIHS rating "POOR" for front end, no other ratings.
- Optional fog lamps.
- Two front airbags, ONLY.

Audio (17/20):
- Stock Kia surround system, pretty good bass and crisp sound. 7 Speakers.

Good for snow (14/20):
- Yes

Capacity (15/20):
- Seats 4...5 if you have less than average sized passengers.
- Trunk - 10.4cu ft

Cool (10/20):
- Decent - It's not awesome, it's not terrible...The audio system is supurb for a base OEM unit.

Practicality (18/20):
- Good room for everyone, expansive boot...sure!

Reliability (14/20):
- Annoying alarm system goes off if battery terminals aren't shining like a new penny.
- Engine ping from a cold start may not go away sometimes.

Build Quality (6/20):
- Paint chips from small pebbles on road.
- Bodywork dents too easily.
- Unable to adjust headlamp.
- Interior buttons fade at touch of your finger.
- Tweeters work when there's perfect radio reception.
- Front bumper is too low to successfully traverse some curbs into parking lots and gaps in roadworks.

Final Verdict:

I rate the 2004 Kia Spectra (gen 1) a 12/20. There's a lot to like about this car, it has some character to it. But safety and build quality should be top concerns before considering purchasing one of thsse. Watch out for what appears to be dots of primer showing on paint...Fuel economy could be a lot better...

  • Dude how the fuck is this a 2004 Kia Spectra check your information again fagget i work at a kia dealer.

  • @danielc365 First, you should learn how to use proper spelling and grammar. Second, since you "work at a Kia dealer" you should know that the first generation Spectra overlapped the second generation Spectra in the year 2004. Fail.

  • And also, where exactly is the montage taking place outside of pretty much everywhere, from what I can tell?

  • @moogledevilboy Yup....

*sob* I've been banned from Smart Car of America *sob*

And it's all Dakota's fault for spamming the place with my IP address!

  • @Neonspinnazz30 That blows, is it a permaban or is it just for a few months?

  • @moogledevilboy I has no clue...I entered the forum and it simply said my IP was banned...

  • @Neonspinnazz30 IP ban, could be 3 months, could be permanent.
