I turn the pill into powder and then mix it with tuna juice. Then I insert the filled syringe into the cat's mouth. She not happy but not as upset as when it was straight medication.

Thanks so much!! I will try this next time we have to pill. As one other comment said, the cats just hated me when we had to treat with pills. Don't know why I never thought of a water chaser, guess I was afraid they would aspirate or something.

@yowzee, thank you! :)
I had to make a horrible choice at that time: I decided not to give him the pills.
We had just gotten over a terrible bout of fleas, but he had an allergic reaction to the bites.
Seeing him pull out tufts of his hair broke my heart! The vet said it should go away in a month, but I wanted a more immediate relief for him. I asked for an allergy shot, but they only had pills. :S
Again, thank you so much for helping us with our beauties!
Warmest wishes to you & yours. :)

@ctonyp I'm so happy he -- AND you -- are doing better! I was so nervous the first time I tried to put a pill in her mouth; no doubt my nervousness rubbed off. It was a learning process for both of us. Ailing animals can live long, quality lives when they get the right combo of meds, nutrition and TLC. Water chasers after a pill are so important - at least 3 mL. It's wear and tear on the esophagus if pills go down dry consistently! Restraint is so unnecessary! Glad you found the zone!
I have to do this to my cat in 5 hours. Wish me luck!

@kari00ws6 I had SO much anxiety the 1st time. Rest assured, you may fumble at 1st, (because of YOUR nerves) but practice makes perfect. I've tried this technique on different cats -- to test it. It has never failed, since the technique is now 2nd nature for me, and I know without a doubt that it does not hurt. Good luck to both of you!

Thank you so much for this!
I was distressed last year when my vet gave me pills for my cat. He panics, revolts... The last time I tried to give him his pill, he whined, his eyes were large as saucers. He was terrified, and kept his mouth shut so tight that he began to drool! :(
I tell you, it was so pitiful I nearly cried.

But now I know what to do.
You've saved us both! :)

@4thel0ve That's heartbreaking - I know -- because I've been there. I did not want my beloved furry friend to endure panic on a regular basis. Thank God a kinder way was revealed. She was my inspiration. I couldn't live with myself if I knew I was traumatizing her just to keep her "healthy," That didn't make sense to me. I wish you and your beauty the best!

@femtocool Thanks. I haven't met a cat that likes pills! I also used to roll tiny pieces of pills into tiny tuna-fish balls to resemble kibbles. That worked until she caught on! She quickly learned how to swallow the tuna and roll the hidden pill pieces off her tongue. Amazing. I would laugh and say, back to the drawing board! It was a stress-free game for her, so she didn't mind when I did outwit her - which wasn't too often. 8-) I hope you two found your groove.
