High School Marching band from Montebello, CA, in the Mexican Independance Parade held in East Los Angeles in September of 1992. (DISCLAIMER: footage is from a TV broadcast)

  • The parade no longer goes down first st for whoever wants to know. It goes down cesar chavez only. i do not know why. probably way less walking haha. The old route was starting at the mercado on first turns on rowan Ave then turn right on cesar cahvez truly a beatiful sight

  • Thanks for the info, I moved away from LA in the mid 90s, and when I returned, I found many things had changed. The parade is very different now; almost no marching bands (Garfield, Rosevelt and other local schools no longer present), less commercial entries, and more community based organizations. They parade by Mexican states now. I miss the old parade, and the festival at the park at the end was bigger. Now, there are many Mexican Independence fests, and they all feel smaller.

  • Wow, cool to find this video. this was 1992. I was drum major of this band 2 years prior, in 1990!

  • Yeah man it Sucks the first time i went there i was 4 years old. Hot as hell i had a spot in front of the first street store(since closed) back then they had GHS and RHs bands and cheerleaders and they could give any Hs a run for their money. Not its radio stations politicians. Yeah not too many attendees either. Theres a festival on whittier i tihnk you should check out its gonna be an anunual festival
