Demonstration of a customized hard-to-find Epiphone Nighthawk I recently sold. This guitar was discontinued several years ago.

  • I wonder if later on he realized that he fucked up cuz the neck pickup already has a coil-tap.

  • @grungerocks24 Thanks for watching - Yeah, the previous owner had disconnected the switch, so I re-wired it for the neck and added a second coil tap for the bridge for added pickup combinations. But I think you're right - the coil tap was stock on this guitar.

  • I own a Gibson Nighthawk and I love it. Also a blueshawk. I didn't like the action too much till I brought it o Kenny in ALM music in Norfolk , VA. Now the hawks are the only guitars I take to a gig. I leave the les paul and the strat at home. I was thinking of buying another nighthawk. I was just wondering how the epiphone compared with the gibson. Anyone know?

  • The differences are the same as between the Epi & Gibson Les Pauls. My Epiphone was quite good, but quality control varies from the asian factories.

  • hey, i have the same special nighthawk, but the tuning stability is terrible!

i was wondering if this guitar has the same unbranded tuners that mine has, or has something better like grovers?

  • As far as I know they were stock tuners. I can think of a few possible scenarios - Your tuners could be bad, or they might need a little tightening. Try tightening the screws on the top of the tuning keys if they don't already feel snug. It could also be issues with the nut. If the grooves in the nut are too narrow for your string guage they'll catch and throw the tuning off while you play. Either lighten your string guage or take it to a pro to have the nut filed for your strings.

  • @Gingerlord01 It lets you use only one coil of a humbucker, essentially. It pretty much gives you a single coil sound from a humbucker. :)

  • I am really impressed by these guitars. As a fender guy I like the longer scale length and the string through body design.

  • um, what is a coil tap?

  • ya see, i picked up this guitar today, and i must say i loved the way it sat, the way it felt, the height of the strings, the only downside i could find was the lack of a tremelo bridge, a fender style trem would be ideal :( i could get it i suppose and if i cant stand not having a whammy the first few days then take it back :S

  • Very Thorough Video Review.. : ) Nice Jazz Scales Too

Great Job , I'm Gong To Purchace This GTR.....thks for the post

  • this guitar got me at the coil-tap function

  • @bgmathews The new Nighthawk Resissues have Grover tuners . From what I have read , the resissues are better in some ways in terms of build, looks, etc. Seymour Duncan has repleacement/upgrade pups for the center slanted one. I believe the pups on the bridge and neck are 450/490t and don't sound that bad at all from what I have heard here on YT . Its my guitar of choice when I can afford one and then a Peavey or Fishman tube amp.

  • You are one talented and knowledgeable guitar player. Good demo.

Also, do you have a band or song recordings that people could listen to?

  • Yeah, great guitar. I have a 1993 Amber version and bought it because of the standard Bill Lawrence pickups (OBL's), they're great and balsy. These guitars are the next collectors items, I'm sure.

    great job man.
