@DeanoDrummin agreed....the first roll is straight 32nds then the second is more of a triplet feel roll. Also notice how steve plays with a very light touch, makes it sit a lot better if you know what i mean.

The key is the faint ghost note chick of the hi hat when Steve really plays it- also note the difference in the roll lenghts. The variance is about groove, taste and sinking yourself into the pocket. To play it right- go slow and focus on HH part with ghost chick and clean rolls (there is a difference between the two rolls). Gadd is a master composer and technician. You can do it!

There's really neat drumming in Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks", that's clearly pretty influenced by this beat.
