' My religion and my art , these are my life'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwen_John

Gwen John, was born in Haverfordwest, Wales in 1876. Like her brother, Augustus John, Gwen studied at the Slade School of Art (1895-98). On leaving she worked briefly in Paris with James Whistler and returned to London in 1899, where she began to exhibit her work.

In 1903 Gwen John set out with Dorelia McNeill, to walk to Rome. They only got as far as France and Gwen made the decision to settle in Paris. Gwen continued to paint and in 1906 began modelling for the sculptor Auguste Rodin and also became his mistress.

After her conversion to Roman Catholicism in 1913 she moved to the suburban village of Meudon. In later life she concentrated on small-scale portraits and still-lifes. Gwen John died in 1939.

  • absolutely love her portraits and your choice of music, which says so much of what her life lines were. her model'sfaces express the moment caught, which tells us, ppl of so different times, pace of life, ideas what life back then looked like. each time you make a new art video, it brings me back then and it's an amazing journey, i want to go on.

with great joy i read the comment under ss video and every time you do, it's cherished. left me speechless. posted on my FB

  • Augustus John is one of the finest draughtsmen to have lived. I have recently acquired one of his drawings, a portrait of his son, Pyramus.

It can be viewed on my website, at markmitchellpaintings

alternatively you can view it on my youtube video by clicking on my username

I would very much like to acquire more of his works so if anyone knows of anyone who has any for sale, please inform me. Mark Mitchell
