  • The instrument in the beach boys recording is actually a tanneren NOT a thremin.

  • What is a "tanneren" ?

  • "The Electro-Theremin, often called the tannerin, is an electronic musical instrument developed by trombonist Paul Tanner and amateur inventor Bob Whitsell in the late 1950s to produce a sound to mimic that of the theremin. The instrument features a tone and portamento similar to that of the theremin (or thereminvox), but with a different control mechanism."

    -Wikipedia

  • Ah, ok "tannerin" with an "i". That's why it didn't show up in google. Thanks for the help.

  • The arrows in the diagram's arrows face the wrong way, the facts are wrong. . . . and the sound is interesting but inaccurate.

  • Could you elaborate about the wrong facts ? I hope you understood that the aim of the video is only to inspire people and give them ideas what they could try with just the limited set of sensors included in the I-CubeX StarterPack.

  • ok awesome midi controller. the virtual theremin sounds terrible tho . but it could be great with a VST or somethin' :]

i would try it ,but i don't think i'm able to right now sry.

  • Ok - I'll elaborate:

    a) A Tannerin, not a theremin was used in 'Good Vibrations'

    b) 15 seconds in, a video is shown purporting to explain the playing method of a real theremin. The arrows are going in the wrong directions.

  • See also the "Magic à la Theremin" video which shows the Reach sensor in a Theremin-like demo.
