  • I'm considering pulling the trigger on NTN and have a couple of ?s. I have heard of problems with snow accumulating underfoot in powder. Have you found this to be an issue? Also, the system has less range of forward motion than, say, Hammerhead on 4, or so it seems. Does this reduced forward ROM present any kind of problem for you on steeps or in powder, or in any other ways? BTW, funny how you get comments from people on how to do it right, but no videos on how they do it!

  • @kayakutah I have had problems in th past with snow accumulation. Not in the last two years however. It was only ever when new snow started to get a little heavy. like in alaska in march. Skiing a lot in Utah and canada no problems.

Yes there is less ROM in NTN. But not in a detrimental way. Plus you can adjust the tension to give yourself more or less ROM. I think that it will take a few days to adjust to the different feeling of NTN but after that you will never look back.

  • @tgellie Well, went out yesterday to Brighton and skied the NTN...jury's out for now. I felt quite uncoordinated, with a tendency to over turn on right turns...weird...As you said (and others as well) I guess it'll take a few days.

  • @kayakutah Stick with it. Make sure you are centred on your front foot (have pressure through the heel as well as ball of foot) If you dont have any pressure through your heel you will overturn.

  • This is not telemark...i only see an alpine skier with a broken binding!

  • well i think the cool thing with tele is your style and technique is quite different from skier to skier. You can ski whichever way you feel comfortable or works for you. How is this 'not telelmark'?

  • @tgellie Thanks...I went out again today. What seemed to help me was to concentrate on carved turns on the flats. It seemed to get me in the proper position for just skiing on the steeper stuff...I may have been over-thinking this! Anyway, thanks for the help and support.

  • @tgellie Thanks. I went down to backcountry and picked up the NTN and the Scarpa (3 buckle) Terminator X. Went home and mounted one NTN on a 2x4...put the Scarpa/NTN blue tube on 1 on one foot and my T2 Eco/Axl on 2 on the other foot for comparison. I think it will work just fine. Blue tube on 2 will be almost identical with no problem regarding ROM. Thanks for the advice...I'm gonna mount them up.

  • generally your tele stance would be considered to close to apline to bother with the effortt of having tele kit. your boots should be at least a boot length apart in the turn which means your knees are not in line like yours are. in telemark racing you are deducted points if your stance does not meet certain tele criteria. obiously your a good alpine skiier and will evolve your telemarking quickly.

  • @tgellie you do not bend your knees and you have to shift your weight

  • Americans not doing it properly, longer stance or you might as well just alpine

  • Funny comments. Especially the "not telemark" one. Actually this is what good modern telemark skiing looks like. What is different about it is that it is a telemarker that actually knows how to use ski design, which is probably why some feel it looks like alpine.

FYI, that move that is listed as "paramark" is actually the "monomark" staying in one stance while linking turns.
