He is obviously going through the motions, It sounds like a warm up for a session. If he had got serious it could have been a great version. Now is the chance to say it;: A Black singer ripping off a White singers version. It's easy to court controversy isn't it...........No! I don't subscribe to that sort of shite. If a song is worth singing then sing it. He actualy did a great version later on anyway.

@imanuglyfrog Ah, this religion thing with Penniman came and went several times in his life! The man was very fanciful and unpredictable!

Recorded probably between July, 1956 and October, 1957.

it had to be after 1956, because he is covereing Elvis presley's version and not big mama thorntons version. the 2 songs have same title and a few of the same lines but the 2 songs are very different.
Not a rehearsal, just a rejected 50s take, finally released in 1989!

@imanuglyfrog Well, let's say everybody's right! After all, a recording session is a kind of rehearsal. When a take sounds worthwhile, it's destined to become a single or an album track. Although Richard recorded his best songs ever, it's normal that in his recording sessions there some crap was also recorded. You uploaded about half a dozen of these, disregarded at the time by Specialty, and they finally saw the light in 1989. I think I remember that LR & Specialty didn't part in good terms!

@ENACODNOM 100% agree with you, and it is a known fact that poor old Little Richard was totally screwed over....no wonder he turned to religion..!!!

I've heard Little Richard sing Hound Dog, but never this version. Do you know when this was from.

@EbonyBunny1 All i know it was recorded sometime in the 50's, it wasn't released at the time which is the same for most of the "alternates" i'm posting, however they are all available now on his "Complete '50's collection" from iTUNES,Mark.
