The Vianden hydro-electric power plant, situated in the Our Valley in Luxembourg, is one of the largest in Europe. The Vianden pumped storage hydroelectricity plant, which was built between 1959 and 1964, is connected to the German grid and represents an important link in the Western European network. Electricity demands undergo rapid and important fluctuations during the day. Pumped storage hydroelectricity is a method of storing and producing electricity to supply high peak demands by moving water between reservoirs at different elevations.
Surplus energy available during off-peak hours is used to pump water from a lower reservoir to an elevated storage basin. This water is released during peak hours to produce high-value electricity. A total of ten hydroelectric units are installed to generate a total capacity of 1100MW. The infoclip includes: - Various shots of the Our Valley; -
Exterior and interior shots of the Vianden pumped storage
hydroelectricity plant; - Dam; - Pylons.
