This has been an ongoing project for about a month now. It was really tough finding the time to get everyone over to my place to record their tracks but we finally finished! This is one of my favorite charts. It goes through so many different feels and every time you think it's going to end.. it just keeps on going! It was also an extremely hard read.

It was recorded in the order Myself - Alanna - Rob which was very difficult because I had all the inner parts and no melody or consonance to tune to! This arrangement doesn't usually feature a bass verse, but we changed it around so Rob could have one too! Hope you enjoy because it took a ton of work and is the kind of music I love to sing!

Soprano (and Soprano extra overdubs) - Alanna
Alto 1 - Alanna
Alto 2 (and alto 2 divisi) - Danny
Tenor - Danny
Baritone - Rob
Bass - Rob

Recorded on my 2.16 Ghz Macbook. Audio recorded and edited in Logic Pro 9. Video edited and synced in Final Cut Express 4. Videos recorded in HD on Canon EOS T2i. Mic is a Shure SM7B (cardioid and dynamic) and preamp is an Apogee Duet.

  • I spent about 15 minutes in another life doing this stuff with Gene, Don shelton, Ian Freebairnn Smith, etc. etc.. Doesn't sound dissonant to me. Thanks for keeping this vocal art form alive. Not to many young people understand this groove and I really appreciate what you're up to.

  • @perrybotkin Thanks so much. And might I add how jealous I am that you had such an opportunity.

  • is that your sm7b? love that mic!

  • @j0rdthel0rd Sure is!

  • Where could one obtain sheet music?

  • @3rdImpression One can obtain it by transcribing it because this arrangement is not published, like many amazing Gene Puerling charts. However, transcribing is an important skill for improving your ears and it means then when you sing unpublished charts you don't have a million other groups singing the same song, like... say... Go The Distance?

  • can you do a version of Baby it's cold outside?!?!

  • I'm impressed by your ability to sight read and sing apparently comfortably with such dissonance. This genre of music is still beyond my tastes, but I can appreciate the level of difficulty.

To me, dissonance creates a certain tension which has to be released every now & then, the goal being emphasize the story and underlying emotions. Your performance was a bit too dissonant for me and for too long, so it felt sometimes like a vocal exercise more than a performance. But maybe it's just me. ;-)
