Should homosexual couples be allowed to adopt children?

The legal situation of homosexuals in Austria is slowly improving. This leads to the debate, whether homosexual partners should be allowed to adopt children or not. What are the differences between heterosexual and homosexual parents?

@MrChristmas365 Wanting children is not selfish, it's natural. I want to have kids, I am a gay man, I will have a husband and kids. It is insulting to believe that gay and lesbian parents live in a vacuum where they will not have both sexes. EVERYONE wanting to be parents or choosing not to be is selfish

"you expect that child to go thro school with the torment of other children" Like I said: YOU would be the ringleader and I am sure you would probably balk at a child telling you that your child bullies them because they have same sex parents. @vidhead85 bingo the moment you decided you wanted a boyfriend you gave up the choice of having a child as of how many children i have i have 2 who have a loving mother and father as for the lifestyle i mean two dads you expect that child to go thro school with the torment of other children i strongly suggest you get a dog as you are playing with a childs life and happiness if you are gay then that is fine but dont bring a child who has no choice in the matter

@paulandtal You have 'nothing against gays' but yet you're telling me that I can't have children if I'm gay, tell me something: How many children do you have? How many of them are adopted? Yeah, didn't think so. Besides, it is right to punish a child by letting them go without a loving home? Next, "am disgusted when the lifestyle is thrown into a child's life" What is the LIFESTYLE? No one has EVER told me what that is. It's little difference from the STRAIGHT lifestyle

@vidhead85 are you seriouse there are plenty of rational reasons they shouldnt adopt it is people like you wich have made this world as messed up as it is i have nothing against gays as a whole but am disgusted when the lifestyle is thrown into a childs life first it was gay mariages now adoption where does old school ethics come into it if you choose to have a same sex relation ship then it should be understood that you cant have children its basic biology after all a dog cant have kittens

i think it is an absolute joke that gays are allowed to adopt . there is no thought into how the child will be treated in school or life it seems to me that it is two selfish people who just want the next thing they cant have . face up you gave up the right to have children when you decided to have a same sex relationship stick with your prada shoes and puppies

you know thats homosexuals will love their child because they fought their entire lives to get the right to have that child, and went out of their way to bring the child into their lives, where as heterosexuals only had to fuck each other to get a child.

@Dirtymurder This argument against gays doesn't satisfy a reason to bar adoption. I don't remember the study but I did see one where it did compare the children of same sex couples to heterosexual children and little to no difference was found

@Dirtymurder First, which study was that? I never mentioned one specific one since it's been proven across the board. Next, you said they 'choose' a gay lifestyle? You also insinuate that being gay is a choice. Obviously you're not gay and you didn't choose to be straight. Next, have your cake and eat it? What is this? Children are prepared for, a lot goes into gay parenting and they scrutinize EVERYTHING--they're qualified and there's no rational basis for them not to adopt.
