United Nations, New York, July 2009 - An epidemic is wiping out India's daughters. It's not a disease or famine - it's parents deciding not to have baby girls. This disturbing trend is not new but modern science is enabling it, with disastrous results for India's future.

Well all these families deciding not to have a daughter because they want a son most likely won't have grandchildren. With the ratio of male to female getting seriously out of balance there will be no wives for most of these sons in the future.

People are killing their daughters because of dowry? I feel my heart sinking into my stomach.

You know, in Islam, the groom gives the dowry to the bride. This alleviates financial stress from either family. Maybe India should adopt this tradition.
