This is a scene from The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition). Where Aragorn sings this song from the epic poem Lay of Leithian (the story is also in The Silmarillion).

Luthien Tinuviel was an Elven princess (the daughter of a Maia and Telerin (Sindarin) king). Beren was a man in the First Age. They fell in love. Beren was later slain in a battle (in a war concerning the Silmarillions). Luthien's love for Beren was so strong that she herself died and came to the Halls of Mandos and pleaded with her singing which moved Mandos so much and he granted them one life together as mortals. They lived a full mortal life in Ossiriand, away from other mortal affairs. Both her and Beren faced the Doom of Man and left the circles of this world forever.

If you have time, read The Silmarillion!

  • I've never heard him sing in English.

  • @AtarahDerek You should write him to ask him to sing in English =)

  • Thanks for bringing this back!!!

    (Do you remember me...?)

  • @LuthienofOssiriand

    You're welcome!

Yes of course I remember you, the LotR vid lover. And I think my first subscriber xD

I would upload more of the vids but youtube keeps flagging copyright infringements lol.

Of the original 10 vids, only this one and Sleeping Sun didn't get flagged.

  • I think Viggo Mortensen did a fine job coming up with melodies for the songs in these movies, melodies that fit wonderfully with the tone of the texts. This is one of my favorite scenes from the whole trilogy because the melody is so haunting. In fact, I think it would be nice if the actors got together and recorded the poems and songs from the text. It'd be a pleasure listening to them.

  • @lefredvoncarstein I'm female ;) in fact this song is about the same fictional heroine who was the inspiration for my name.

    Luthien of Ossiriand.

  • fuck you frodo you stoped the song

  • Me, I have already read the story of Beren and Lûthien! I love it! But however, to read the entire book, I put more than a year! I was, alas, other stuff to do!

  • despite having maia blood, it didn't make her any special than any other ordinary elves,,..there were even greater elves like feanor or else

  • "Tinuviel the Elven fair, Immortal maiden Elven wise, about him cast her shadowy hair and arms like silver glimmering."

Ugh I love this song soooo mcuh it's so beautiful

  • I have never seen this scene. Can i watch it ??

  • @jimmyzhanneutron I've already found it, but thanx anyway :))))

hello, sorry to budge in on the conversation here. But just in case you didn't know, over at arwen-undomiel, they have a section on Quenya and Sindarin from the movies and the books ( i think).

Also, there are some nice Quenya dictionaries on the internet which you should definitely check out, just search in google!

  • @ReStOrEdLiFe88 okay i'll check
