Farewell to Tarwathie - Isla StClair - Live 1995

In 1995, I was mixing a "gig" for Isa and had an old 8 track cassette based system as part of the PA and asked it I could record the gig. For many years the tapes were lost and, when I found them, they were in terrible condition. I recorded Isla's tracks (guitar and vocals) backwards (it was the only way the tape would play) onto the studio system and "flipped" them and worked on getting the quality as good as I could. I added some piano, strings and bass and (although I have tried and failed) Isla to the best of my knowledge has not heard this yet (and others I have managed to save).
It was a magical evening and, I hope that, when she hears this, she will approve (if not - then I will remove it). I hope you enjoy her wonderful voice and rendition of this haunting ballad.

I still have all the recordings I did back then and now have a full recording studio and would love her to hear what I have done with some of the other tracks we recorded back then. I tried to catch her once when she was in Panto in Barnstaple (we live in Ilfracombe North Devon) - but missed her by 10 minutes!!. I vote this the best of the versions I've listened to - J Collins, The Corries, Ian Campbell etc. It's a blend of her Scottish accent, slight huskines and interpretion; just beautiful.
