This is my version of the classic Jimi Hendrix Guitar Solo done at Woodstock. Jimi masterfully constructed this solo and played it so perfectly. It's beautiful. My favorite guitar solo.

I made a few minor note changes to fit my style of playing while preserved the integrity of the song sticking to the main riffs as accurately as possible. I added more distortion and more 'bite' so to say.

I use a 'free floating' Floyd Rose Tremolo profusely throughout the solo. That's my consistent playing style 'riding the 'trem' adding subtle note variations pulls and 'pushes' a lot. It takes some getting used to since your hand is 'free floating' as well leaving only your arm for steady support. And yes the ending cord is a little different (since I wanted to end the song with vibrato and Jimi final cord isn't the best for that). The guitar playing in this song is particularly advanced a lot of 'tricky licks' triads (using 2 fingers) fast hammers (including pinky) and pulls unusual slides and some bursts of very rapid aying. So I would recommend this solo for those into Hendrix's playing style and some experience and a lot of practice!

I use a Floyd Rose Discovery Guitar (has the latest 'Speedloader' system). It also has a bridge 'humbucker' pickup and two 'Stat' sounding 'singe coil' pickups. In this song I used the neck position 'singe coil' pickup. I liked that pickup since it has a lot of tone. Also I used .12 gauge strings and tuned them down a semi-tone as Jimi played it. I wanted to get as much tone out of my guitar as possible. The Amp is a 'Rock Legends' (Marshall 'sim') from Nomad Factory. But due to latency issues I had to use a 'cheap freebee' amp to record the main guitar. Later I added Chorus and Tremolo with a little 'retro' delay. I mixed the song on ASampltude 11 (which is a great program; I highly recommend it) and Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus (which 'crashed' a lot).

OK, the guitar was the easy part (well sort of). Video editing was a 'bitch' (sorry), I'm new to it and my camcorder has no way of 'syncing' to the music (so I had to do that manually - so pardon me if there is any parts that seem out of 'sync'). Most of the tracks are a collection of me practicing, doing the main tracks, and later replaying parts that were poorly recorded (which was a lot) or I wanted to get certain angle, closeup or whatever. Therefore I spent about 2 days getting the guitar stuff done (practicing, 'laying the tracks', etc.) and 8 days doing 'video editing'. Not quite what I expected, but I'm new to it and think I learned a lot while making this video. I put a lot of closeups so you can see how I played it.

I wanted to make something special in tribute to the guitar legend. I'm not a big fan of playing in front of a PC cam with crapy audio and video quality, nor with a 'Hendrix song' or a metronome 'clacking' away in the background. Not to take anything away from those guitarist, they are exceptional guitar players. But I wanted something that would be interesting to watch for guitarist or Hendrix fans alike with some cool audio. Also, I wanted to give it a 'little twist', otherwise might as well just play 'Jimi's' version from Woodstock (It will always be the best version).

Hope you like It! I
