skaters have been on the peripheral of society, seen as a funny sub-culture, a lot of prejudice surrounds what they do, big sums of money are made by this activity, to stifle its progression by treating skaters like wayward juveniles is incomprehensible. I'm sure if you're polite and agreeable towards them, they will show you the same respect.

They may not call themselves "athletes" in the strictest sense of the word, but that's more of a non-conformity thing, I think. They see what they do as a sport, without a doubt, and making completely fabricated claims against it is sad.

Skating is pretty destructive, at least on a cosmetic level. Wax leaves a dark residue on concrete, painted rails get scuffed all to hell, grinding takes chunks out of corners if you're not careful, and other things along those lines. That's not to say it should be banned. It's just that if you make the area in front of or on someone's property look worse, they have every right to ask you to leave. People that are rude about it are lame, but skaters who are rude about leaving are, too.

@enjoiurskatebord i do know that a skateboard doesn't do much damage other than scratch some paint off of a rail. and even if that's ALL the damage a skateboard could ever do, somebody other than you has to be the one to buy paint and repaint it. look, justify it all you want. and i don't give a fuck what kind of poser you thought i was. i never sanded the bottom of my board, and i never knew anyone who did.

the commercial isnt saying that skateboarders shouldnt be prosecuted for skating in places that are illegal to skate in, its saying that there shouldnt be so many steriotypes. there shouldnt be any "no skating" signs. but all that insurance stuff, that stuff is alright. and the damaging property stuff, thats alright too. tennis is meant for tennis courts, theyre not huting the court. skating is (kinda) meant for streets, were not hurting anything. its bad when people get pissed at uson sidewalks
